About FPES:

Florida Press Educational Services, Inc. (FPES) is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization of newspaper professionals that promotes reading, particularly for young people. The primary objectives for FPES have been established by the Newspaper Association of America.

Objectives:

• Teach students to read the newspaper critically

• Nurture the desire to read effectively

• Stimulate a concern for public issues

• Communicate an understanding of the free press in our society

• Encourage involvement in the self-governing process

• Promote the use of the newspaper as a textbook in education

FPES and NIE:

FPES participates in Newspapers in Education (NIE), an international program that encourages the use of the daily paper as an up-to-date, instructional classroom tool. Through NIE, newspapers are used in all subjects as a progressive teaching resource, from primary through adult education levels.
